Donkervoort D8 operating manual – Battery

The battery is located in the rear of the vehicle on the left hand side. By removing the carpeting, you will have access to the battery. The connection on the positive pole is red and has a separate cover. The connection on the negative pole is black.

When working on the battery, the following precautions should be taken in order to ensure your safety:

  • Wear protective glasses.
  • Wear protective gloves.
  • Keep the battery and battery acid out of the reach of children.
  • Do not smoke or allow sparks in the vicinity of the battery. This also applies if the battery is being charged.

Charging the battery

The battery is maintenance-free under normal circumstances. However, if the car is only used occasionally, the battery capacity can be reduced to such a level that the vehicle will not start. In such cases, the battery should be re-charged. The battery charger should be connected to both poles. When using a charger with limited capacity, it is not necessary to detach the connector cables for the dashboard wiring.

When using a fast charger, both connector cables must be detached. In all cases, you should abide by the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the battery charger.

If the capacity of the (almost) de-charged battery, despite attempts to re-charge it, can not be restored, then the battery is defective and should be replaced.

Part number

VARTA, #B15 545 103 042, 12v – 45 Ah or BOSCH, #079 S3002, 12v – 45 Ah (discontinued) use VARTA and BOSCH cross reference tables of your local part supplier to find equivalent up to date part number.

Some D8’s have a smaller dimension battery fitted. Part number BOSCH, #0092 S30160 / 545 077 030, 12v – 45 Ah. Check your dimensions of the battery mounting plate.

Note: always check the battery dimensions before ordering as mounting base plate may have variations depending on production date of the car! The battery has to be mounted within the base plate and not on top of it to prevent it from moving in the vehicle and fixate it properly.

Battery Maintenance – Advice: purchase the C-Tek MXS 5.0

With vehicle technology developing at a pace, increasing strain is being placed on the battery just to keep the vehicle operating as it should. As a result, regular Battery Maintenance is more important today than it ever has been before. Battery technology has developed hugely over the past couple of years and, is continuing to do so. However, the consequence of these developments is that batteries need to be charged and maintained in a very specific way but, not all chargers are suitably adapted to do this.

Traditional battery chargers are generally unsuitable to perform Battery Maintenance as they treat all batteries in the same way and just provide a steady but unregulated current to the battery. This can easily lead to over, or under, charging of the battery and thereby decrease its lifespan. Conversely, CTEK makes Battery Maintenance a quick, simple and extremely effective process. Its range of smart chargers constantly reads and communicates with the battery, charging only to its direct needs and therefore avoiding any possibility of incorrectly charging the battery and, by ensuring the battery is conditioned as well as charged, extending its life significantly.

The MXS 5.0 is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger with automatic temperature compensation built in providing unrivalled performance on lead-acid batteries from 1.2Ah up to 110Ah. The MXS 5.0 solves a broad range of battery problems and is the ideal charger for the user with high demands. Features of the MXS 5.0 include diagnosis of battery condition to establish if it can receive and retain charge, patented automatic desulphation step and a special reconditioning step that will revive and restore deeply discharged and stratified batteries. AGM option is perfect for maximising performance and life of most Stop – Start batteries. The built in temperature compensation ensures ideal charging performance even in the most extreme conditions. Patented Float/Pulse maintenance makes the MXS 5.0 ideal for long – term maintenance. The entire process of battery testing, charging and maintenance is easily followed on the clear LED display.

The MXS 5.0 is a fully automatic “connect and forget” 12V charger with 8 charging steps and offers selectable SMALL BATTERY, and NORMAL BATTERY  programs. The RECOND and AGM options operate individually or together  in both SMALL BATTERY and NORMAL BATTERY programs providing great  flexibility for the user. Wide charging range on all lead-acid battery types  from 1.2Ah up to110Ah with additional maintenance capability to 160Ah.  Splash proof and dust proof (IP65).  The MXS 5.0 is easy and safe to use,  protects vehicle electronics, is spark-free, reverse polarity protected and short  circuit proof. The MXS 5.0 features a 5- year warranty.
